Via VAHAN (Parivahan Portal)

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways provides a centralized database of vehicle registrations through VAHAN website for indian citizens.

  1. Visit Vahan official website (https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in).
  2. Click “Know Your Vehical Details” on Portal.
  3. Give your credentials mobile number and password to login.
  4. Enter vehicle registration number and code.
  5. Click on search tool button to get details.

Via mParivahan Mobile App

  • Download and install mparivahan app from google play store.
  • After downloading login to your portal with your credentials like mobile number and password.
  • Write registration number of vehicle whose details are required.
  • Click on verify and see essential vehicle details, including owner name, fitness validity, and insurance status.

Vehicle Registration Process in RTO

It is required by Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 to register a vehicle with the RTO. The following outlines procedure for vehicle registration step by step guide:

Temporary registration

A temporary registration is one that vehical dealer issues at the time of purchase.

Temporary registration is valid for 7 to 30 days only and must be converted into permanent registration with in that period.

Permanent registration

In order to acquire a permanent registration certificate (RC), the vehicle owner is required to complete the following this process:

  1. Go to loacl RTO office to get the required documents.
  2. Go there and submit the Form 20 along with these documents:
    • Sales invoice of your vehicle.
    • Manufacturer’s certificate and Form 21.
    • Insurance certificate.
    • Certificate of roadworthiness (Form 22) provided by dealer.
    • Address proof (Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Passport, etc.)
    • Valid pollution under control (PUC) certificate.
    • Road tax payment bill.
    • PAN Card/Form 60 (If necessary).
  3. RTO will conduct a formal inspection and verify the documents.
  4. After the documents are verified, you will be issued a permanent registration number in the form of a Registration Certificate (RC).
